Mega Millions Winner Comes Forward In Kansas: Who Is It?(April 9)

The holder of a mega millions winning tickets has finally come forward in Kansas, a week after the historic $646 million jackpot was announced, according to Kansas Lottery officials.

The record-breaking prize yielded three winners, but no one has come forward with a winning ticket until now. The Kansas winning ticket displayed the winning numbers 2-4-23-38-46 and Mega Ball 23, but the owner of the ticket has not made themselves known to the public.

A press conference has been scheduled for Friday afternoon when the identity of the winner might be revealed, although Kansas laws allow winners to remain anonymous.

The winning ticket was allegedly purchased from northeast Kansas, according to an earlier report in the New York Post.  Details of the winnings will be announced in a press conference at at 3:30 p.m. CT in Topeka.

Meanwhile, Mirlande Wilson, a self-proclaimed winner of the lottery in Maryland, now claims to have "misplaced her ticket."

In a confusing turn of events, the 37-year-old mother of seven said she played as a part of a work pool at McDonald's but the winning ticket she claims to hold was purchased independently, according to her report.

Wilson says she purchased her ticket at the 7-Eleven in Baltimore County -- where a winning ticket was actually purchased -- but when it came to presenting the ticket Wilson couldn't, which caused widespread speculation about the legitimacy of her story.

She originally claimed that she hid her winning ticket in the McDonalds where she worked. "I left my ticket there, and it's somewhere safe that only I know about. I'm waiting for things to calm down so I can go back to McDonald's and get it. The people [that work at McDonald's] are too excited. I want their heads to cool down before I go back," she said.

Now, she is saying she has misplaced her ticket. She told an NBC reporter that she looked for it but couldn't find it.
The Maryland Lottery Director Stephen Martino said the lottery winner needs to come forward in person to claim the prize. If there is a group of lottery winners they need to come forward together. Two other winning tickets were sold in Illinois and Kansas.
