Grateful Dead Sold Out - The reunion of the Grateful Dead for three consecutive farewell shows scheduled for July 3-5 at the Chicago's Soldier Field has caught the attention of thousands of fans.
Reports indicate that tickets for the 'Fare thee Well' concert has sold out only two minutes after being launched. About 210,000 tickets for the concert sold out minutes after appearing on Ticketmaster.
According to Peter Shapiro, who is producing the show in association with AEG-owned Madison House, millions of people are still requesting for tickets.
"It would have sold out in an instant, the only thing that took a little time was the computers and stuff," Shapiro said. Adding that Ticketmaster was able to handle the volume of nearly 500,000 people waiting online buy tickets when the 'box office' opened around 10 a.m. CST.
"Ticketmaster did not go down," he said.
Reports indicate that 'Fare thee Well' will feature the original four members of the band and Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio. They will perform in a 360-degree stage allowing the Soldier Field to be filled to its 70,000 maximum capacity daily.
Tickets for the Grateful Dead sold out concert were priced at $59.50 to $199.50 per day.
The 'core four' members of the Grateful Dead Bob Weir, 67, Phil Lesh, 74, Mickey Hart, 71 and Bill Kreutzmann, 68, would be celebrating 50 years since they last played at the Chicago venue.
The legendary group last played there in August 1995 with original front man Jerry Garcia who died a month later.
"We've definitely tapped into something," Shapiro said. "It's cultural phenomenon time."
