Man In Wheelchair Robs Bank and Escapes

Police are on a manhunt for a robber in a wheelchair who made a daring heist at a New York bank.

The robbery took place at the Santander Bank branch at 37-10 Broadway in Long Island City around 2 p.m. Monday.

According to Fox News, the police released surveillance footage of the suspect who is described to be in his late 20s, weighs at about 160 pounds,  and wears a grey hoodie. He wheeled into the bank and passed a note to the teller demanding cash. After receiving more than $1,200 in bills, police said the suspect then fled westbound on Broadway.

Though bound in a wheelchair, the suspect was allegedly moving swift enough that he managed evading the NYPD helicopters searching for him. Investigators are looking at the possibility of an inside job as they found no dye pack in the money.

The policy told New York Post that the suspect told the teller he had a gun, although he never actually displayed the weapon. A spokesperson for Satander Bank released a statement saying that they are grateful that none of the customers or any of their colleagues were injured, and as the investigation is in progress, the spokesperson declined to comment any further.

Santander's Northern Boulevard branch had experienced an attempted robbery in the past, with a 6 feet tall Hispanic man weighing between 200-250 pounds as the prime suspect according to a report by Pix11, but the branch at present has not.

The Gothamist announced that any information that could possible lead to the suspects arrest should contact Crime stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).  They also added that  concerned citizens can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime stoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then entering TIP577.
