Samsung Officially Unveils New Monitor That Can Wirelessly Charge Smartphones

Samsung Electronics has officially introduced a new monitor that can wirelessly charge smartphones and other supported mobile devices.

Dubbed as the SE370, this device utilizes the wireless charging technology developed by the Wireless Power Consortium, also known as the Qi, according to PC World. Through this feature, users will be able to power up their handsets through the monitor without using cables and special ports.

The charging feature of the South Korean tech giant's latest product works through the stand that supports the monitor. Simply placing a smartphone on it will immediately activate the wireless charging mode.

However, according to Samsung, the monitor will only be able to charge mobile devices that support the Qi standard. These include the company's current flagship handsets such as the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. PC World also noted that devices made by other electronics companies such as LG, Huawei, HTC and Sony also have Qi wireless charging support.

As for its other features, the SE370 comes in two display variants: the 23.6-inch and the 27-inch models. Despite the difference in size, both versions sport the same 1920x1080 screen resolution. The two models also provide a 178-degree wide-viewing angle.

In addition, Samsung said that its latest monitor is equipped with FreeSync technology, Android Authority has learned. Developed by AMD, this technology ensures that the operation between the device's processor and monitor runs smoothly. In other words, it provides better graphic quality by preventing screen lagging and image distortion.

Also, the monitor has the ability to automatically adjust the screen's colors and contrast depending on the image's lighting quality. For better visibility and to prevent eye strain, the monitor has a mode that reduces the blue light emitted by the screen, the Press Examiner reported.

Based on these specs, it seems Samsung has designed the SE370 monitor specifically for serious gamers and heavy PC users.

Although Samsung already unveiled the SE370 monitor, the company did not mention when it will exactly debut in stores. The company also did not reveal the monitor's retail price or its regional availability.

Hopefully, these details will be clarified by Samsung during this year's IFA event, which is scheduled to take place in September in Berlin, Germany.
