'Legally Blonde' Could Have Gone To Christina Applegate Instead Of Reese Witherspoon — Find Out Why The 'Vacation' Star Turned It Down

Christina Applegate has a number of comedy movies and sitcoms under her belt and it's not a surprise to learn that the script for "Legally Blonde" landed on her lap fifteen years ago.

She clarified on Wednesday, as per ABC News, that although the role of Elle Woods, which eventually went to Reese Witherspoon, was never presented to her, the script for "Legally Blonde" indeed found its way to the beautiful actress and guess what — she regretted that she was not interested at that time.

The blonde actress mentioned to Entertainment Tonight that the script was sent to her "right after I had just finished, 'Married [...with Children],' and it was a blonde who in that first script didn't win it but ends up going to Yale, or Harvard, I don't remember."

"I got scared of kind of repeating myself," she added.

Christina Applegate had just played the part of Kelly Bundy, another empty-headed blonde on "Married...with Children" for 10 years, so its kind of understandable why she was afraid to be typecasted in the same role.

Entertain This! reported that the "Vacation" star regretted turning down "Legally Blonde," the 2001 iconic comedy movie.

She said, "What a stupid move that was, right?"

Although Christina Applegate wished she'd given the role a second thought, she's delighted that Reese Witherspoon eventually got the role of Elle Woods in "Legally Blonde" and made history as the dumb blonde who surprised everyone that she's more than just a pretty face.

"Reese deserved that," Christina said. "She did a much better job than I ever could."

Meanwhile Huffington Post revealed that Christina Applegate was not the only TV celebrity of the 90s who was considered for Reese Witherspoons' role in "Legally Blonde." Tori Spelling's name also came up and Selma Blair's Vivian character was first offered to Chloë Sevigny.
