Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman [UPDATE]: Mexico’s Biggest And Most Notorious Drug Lord Would Choose To Die Rather Than To Surrender To The U.S.? Extradition And High-Security Prison Worst Than Death

In July, the whole world was baffled when reports emerged that Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, Mexico's most notorious drug lord, had escaped from Altiplano maximum prison, which is located west of Mexico City. Based on the reports, El Chapo crawled through a hole and disappeared through a mile-long tunnel, which was allegedly built just for him.

Known as the world's most powerful and deadly drug trafficking operations kingpin, El Chapo Guzman's escape was dubbed as the "jailbreak of the millennium." The Sinaloa cartel boss is currently on the run but an extensive manhunt has been launched to capture him, as previously reported.

In order to recapture Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, the Mexican authorities recently solicited the help of the Colombian generals including Rosso Jose Serrano, Luis Enrique Montenegro and Ismael Trujillo Polanco, who helped track down Pablo Escobar, the notorious Colombian drug lord who was known as "The King of Cocaine." According to The Independent, Escobar had controlled almost 80 percent of the cocaine dealt in the world.

El Chapo Guzman's recapture seems to be impossible as of the moment, but a former chief of assassins for Escobar doesn't agree, Inquisitr noted.

In an interview with Proceso, a Mexican news magazine, Jhon Jairo Velasquez Vasquez, better known as "Popeye" and one of the few remaining member of Escobar's Medellin Cartel, said that Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman would let himself die before surrendering to the police.

"El Chapo is a dead man," Popeye said, as quoted by Business Insider. "He knows he has to be killed, because if they capture him alive, they will extradite him to the US. And he will not tolerate a high-security prison in the US. There the food they give [is eaten with] a straw, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Nobody talks to you; there is no human contact. If somebody sends you a letter, they show it to you on a television screen."

Popeye added that the notorious drug lord could be tracked through a collaborative effort between uncorrupted police and military forces, American agents, and cooperative criminal elements. Latino Post reported that it will take 16 to 18 months for the Mexican authorities to find El Chapo. The suggested time frame for the recapture of the cartel leader would be able to closely monitor El Chapo's finances, family network and security apparatus.

Do you think the Mexican authorities will be able to recapture Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman alive?
