Nina Dobrev’s Ex Ian Somerhalder DYING On ‘Vampire Diaries’ Season 7? Nikki Reed’s Husband Already Dropping Hints On Twitter, Instagram

It's long over between Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder, but the repercussions of their breakup continue to haunt them every now and then. Following Dobrev's departure from the series after season 6, there have been rumors claiming she's being asked to return to the show. She is reportedly not willing to work with her ex anymore. However, if fans were right that Somerhalder's Damon Salvatore is dying in season 7, would this give Nina enough reason to come back as Elena Gilbert?

In the recent weeks, Nikki Reed's husband has been very active on social media to thank his fans and followers and the avid viewers of vampire-themed CW series. Most of his posts related to "TVD" suggested that he is now ready to let go of the character he portrayed for almost seven years.

On Instagram, he shared a snap with a cryptic message about a week ago. The photo shows one of his eyes looking through a hole, and he captioned it "Looking into the future...Love, Ian."

Then, he also shared a photo of the time his CW series was on top of its game during its freshman run. He wrote "The good old days... Look what was #1!!!!! Thank you for 6 years on the air!!!!"

The pic shows "The Vampire Diaries" being the top TV show, beating "Lost" and "Grey's Anatomy" at the top spot.

Fans of the Hollywood hottie couldn't contain their emotion when they stumbled upon the post since it strongly suggests that Ian is already willing to move on, and perhaps this could mean his character's death on the series. Plus, there is also the possibility that he could be hinting his character's imminent death on "TVD" just like what happened to his character, Boone Carlyle, on "Lost."

In a recent Q&A at Wizard World, Somerhalder admitted that Boone's death in the pilot run of "Lost" still confuses him. "I often think back to why they killed me on 'Lost,'" he was quoted as saying by the Chicago Tribune. But, he added that his character may have been killed off because of his own fault as an actor and his lack of getting into the character who was supposed to be a "spoiled, rich little bastard."

Meanwhile, Ian has continued to tease fans about his character's fate on "The Vampire Diaries." He shared a snap of young self in season 1 which he captioned "Damon Salvatore Season 1 hair/makeup/wardrobe test trailer self(ie) NoFilter."

On Friday, he also took the time to think his followers on Twitter. He tweeted: "Wow, I just realize (sic) that they're almost 6,000,000 of you. 10,000 short of 6 million amazing voices-that I am so proud to be a part of..." before adding, "Thank you for the love, the support, the energy and the world-changing power that you have."

Somerhalder's posts came in days after rumors emerged that Nina Dobrev has refused to return to "TVD" with the actress allegedly insisting that her decision has nothing to do with her ex-boyfriend and former onscreen lover, as per Celeb Dirty Laundry. This could be the truth though since Nina is reportedly very happy with her new beau Austin Stowell.

A few weeks ago, Dobrev and Stowell were spotted by E! News in New York sharing some really sweet and romantic kisses and hugs publicly. The month prior, the rumored couple was spotted enjoying a steamy vacation in St. Tropez, France. Though they have never confirmed nor denied the dating reports, the media continue to follow their every move for hints and strong evidences of their romance.
