According to abc.go.com, "Grey's Anatomy" Season 12 Episode 1: "Sledgehammer" centers on Grey Sloan Memorial doctors who must act quickly to preserve two young girls' lives with excruciating injuries. The story of the two young patients will push some of the doctors to reflect on their own history about the effects of bullying.
Meantime, Dr. Bailey meets Dr. Tracy McConnell (Joey Lauren Adams), her only contender and Catherine Avery's candidate for the Chief of Surgery position. Bailey feels apprehensive when she and Dr. Webber meet Dr. McConnell. Adding to her insecurity was Dr. Webber's praise for her competition's remarkable resume. When Dr. McConnell requested a hospital tour from the outgoing Chief, Bailey exhausts all her efforts to tag along. Expect Dr. Miranda Bailey to fight for the job of Chief of Surgery.
Meredith, on the other hand, is journeying on a new chapter of life and is struggling to make adjustments with her new roommates: two people who do not understand her well enough.
As for Jackson, he's preparing himself for the return of April to Seattle after practicing medicine in the war zone. Meanwhile, Ellen Pompeo shared to Entertainment Weekly that "Grey's Anatomy" Season 12 Episode 1 will start the season's lighter and brighter feel which will hopefully hold the audience's attention. She said that "Grey's Anatomy" Season 12 will go back "a little bit more to its origins.
