Super Bowl Showdown: Thinking Of A Career In Esports Or NFL?

Super Bowl 50 has officially started this week and that means over 120 million people are going to watch athletic men score in a wide field. Sports fans then ask themselves, would a career in Esports or NFL a good choice? The showdown begins.

To start off the season, the game between the Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers not only decides who wins the title but also decides the career choice and hearts of all American fans out there who enjoys throwing the pig skin around. While some like to tackle on the field, some like to enjoy it online, in video games.

Last year, the World Championship for League of Legends was launched which drew in 36 million players. This collection of players raked in $748 million for the Esports game.

Esports has been the biggest collection of pro-gaming where players earn salaries from professional teams and compete with other players - and that includes gamers from around the world. It has now become a multi-billion dollar industry. Sports fans are now thinking - would an athletic career on the field, tackling other players be the best career? Or are they going to opt for a less physical but mentally geared career in esports?

Breaking it down further, becoming an NFL professional on the green is much harder than it looks. Professional players have been training since childhood and have been physically trained to take tackles. Statistically, only 20,000 high school players out of 1 million make it to the big league. Compare it to virtual and online sports, players are required to be strategic about their picks and game play.

"In esports, you can go from playing in your PJs at home one day to being a pro the next day. In the NFL, you have go through an entire system from Pop Warner [that's Little League for football] to high school to college to the NFL and have the right things at the right time fall into place to even be discovered", says Pro Gamer Dennis Fong.

The money might be an incentive for pro-gamers. If you're looking at a career in football, think twice and consider the pros and cons between the two.
