WalMart US Poised For A Big Change To Its Grocery Aisles

Walmart US customers could expect a big change in their favorite superstore. This is in connection with the recent mandate of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, inducing one of the biggest store chains in the United States to modify the food products displayed in its grocery aisles.

The USFDA has issued an order stating that all partially hydrogenated oils are not to be used as ingredients in foods by June 2018. Apparently, the US agency based this rule from research that showed a clear link between trans fats in processed foods and cardiovascular disease.

As a consequence, Walmart US stores will effect a change in all the foods on their grocery shelves.

According to a company blog, the store chain is always searching for ways to help their customers live better, most often even before any mandate from the federal government is issued.

It added that by the end of February, the company anticipates that it can effectively remove all partially hydrogenated oils from the company's private brand food, like Great Value, which is available in U.S. stores. Walmart US has been working on this objective since 2011.

The blog added that by the end of 2015, the company has endeavored to cut sodium in its national brand foods and private brand foods by 25 percent and added sugars by 10 percent.

In this regard, Walmart have surpassed the company's goal of sugar-related reformulation. But it admitted that it is still lagging behind its sodium reduction goal. The results of their December 2015 efforts are now being vetted and are going to be announced in the spring of 2016.

"But we've already proven that, with a relentless work ethic, real progress can be made in the areas of sodium, sugar and trans fat reformulation. We continue to identify and zero in on additional opportunities," the blog added.
