Employers: Your Employees Need Nap Rooms And Other Perks

A recent study about the workplace reveals that employees have standard wants. The information revealed in this study is significant because it shows that if employers are amenable to giving workers what they want these employees are more prone to increasing their efforts in their everyday work.

This study was called "Generations@Work Study" and was conducted by Mass Mutual of the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company. The researchers found out that 6 percent of workers desire nap rooms provided by their companies, 4 percent of employees want free coffee bars, and another 4 percent wish to bring their pets with them to work.

"There is no free lunch" is a practical saying, but about 1.8 percent of workers want their companies to provide them free lunch. That would be some of the outlandish wishes by employees but certainly there are other standard 'employee wants' that employers should take notice of.

Around 47 percent of employees wish that their companies would extend their vacation days. About 40 percent of them want better 401 (K) matches and approximately 36 percent desires flexible work hours.

Fortunately, more and more employers are showing their concern to their employees' well-being.

Nationwide Planning Associates Inc., a New Jersey investment firm renovated an unused closet and installed a recliner, a bamboo rug and a fountain. This company has allowed it's 20 workers to get their nap time to help them go through the 'wave of afternoon fatigue.'

Employees of this company have signed up for 20-minute blocks of rejuvenating time two times a week and come out of the nap room completely re-energized.

Employees found out that they don't feel the need to drink coffee because it's as if they hit their re-start buttons. That validates a study made by the University of Pennsylvania where it is revealed that short periods of sleep can improve alertness, memory, motor skills, mood and decision-making.

Famous people have taken naps to re-energize their systems for the long day ahead. Bill Clinton, Winston Churchill, Thomas Edison are just some of them.
