Josh Duhamel Lends His Hand To Veterans On Memorial Day

Josh Duhamel makes use of his celebrity status to charitable cause and celebrates Memorial Day by lending his hand to disabled veterans.

Duhamel has been known to support a campaign that aids injured veterans by providing smart homes to cater for their needs. The actor also calls for awareness to do the same, according to the Daily Mail.

The "Transformers" actor makes use of his influence in social media by using the hashtag #EnlistMe to spread the word and invite volunteers to build wheelchair-accessible homes, which also features high-tech digital fixtures to make the veterans tend to their needs with much ease.

The actor started the movement long before he starts on his new "Transformers" film.

Duhamal shares that his aunt was deployed in the Balkans, and adds that his grandfather was also a veteran, whom of which served in World War II, according to the Associated Press.

"Having met a lot of these veterans, Navy SEALs, all kinds of special-ops guys over the last several years working," Duhamel said. The 43-year-old actor stated that he took an interest, especially when he started to learn more about what the veterans go through, and particularly what would the veterans has to go through when they have returned to their home country.

On top of the act of altruism, Duhamel emphasizes the importance of his actions as a necessary model behavior to teach his 2-year-old son, Axl.

"The challenge in raising a kid in LA, you know with two parents who - we've literally come from nothing, my wife and I," Duhamel said, also mentioning his wife, Fergie, of the Black Eyed Peas. The philanthropic actor wants his son to understand the importance of respect and compassion, and not to focus only on wealth.

The actor is starting to work on "The Last Knight," which is the fifth instalment of the "Transformers" franchise. The film is set to be released on 2017. Meanwhile, Fergie is developing her second album, "Double Dutchess."
