"Re:Zero Kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu" Season 2 is definitely needed in order to answer the many questions left behind by the Season 1 finale cliffhanger. Many fans worry for the blue-haired demon maid, who has become the heroine of the show, rather than Emilia.
Truth be spoken, although Emilia is supposed to be the heroine of "Re:Zero," many fans prefer one of the twin demon maids, Rem. The blue-haired ogre has won over the hearts of many viewers, despite the efforts of the writers to make Emilia the star.
According to Crunchyroll, there was a recent poll to determine the best character in Re:Zero and Emilia didn't even make top three. Rem, as expected, won by a landslide, gathering over 50 percent of the votes. While Emilia was close to getting beaten by Beatrice and Ram.
Many find that Emilia's character development is lagging behind that of Rem and Ram, according to one source, the twins are rising in power as the novel tells more of the story. As a result, the demon maids have overshadowed Emilia, despite the best efforts of the writers.
Good news is, in "Re:Zero" Season 2, many familiar characters will still be present, including Emilia, Puck, Subaru, Ram, Rem, Beatrice, and Roswaal. However, one of them seems to be in danger of being written off to provide more attention to the unnoticed heroine.
According to Inquistr, Rem's unexpected popularity is making it hard for Emilia to rise to the occasion as the heroine of the show. As a result, we might just lose her in "Re:Zero" Season 2.
Rem is often referred to as the "Sleeping Princess" by creator Tappei Nagatsuki, and fans initially thought that it means she will arise one day. Before anything else, spoilers are ahead!
Rem's death is beyond Subaru's Return by Death ability as his save point is after Rem got wiped out by Gluttony. This knowledge destroys Subaru as he realizes that he has no way to return to a checkpoint where Rem is still safe and sound.
There was a conversation in the light novel that suggests killing Gluttony will bring back Rem, however, even Felix and Wilhelm are unsure about this method. Another way to return Rem is if Subaru can make Emilia Queen. Which will earn them access to the Blood of the Dragon, that can cure Rem.
That being said, Rem being rendered non-existent and only being remembered by Subaru will put Emilia in the limelight, as "Re:Zero" season 2 may start to focus on building Emilia's character as she pursues the throne. All of this will happen because Rem is fast asleep.
Hopefully, this is not the end for Rem of "Re:Zero." Unfortunately, a release date for the second season of the anime has yet to be announced. It is advisable to catch up with the light novel as it already starting to get ahead of the anime series.
