‘O.J.: Made in America’ Oscars Best Documentary Possible Winner

"O.J.:Made in America" might bag the Oscars Best Documentary this year. Another O.J. Simpson story got multiple Emmy Awards last September. The interest of the Americans in the life of former football champion who was suspected of murdering his wife has not died down.

FX's series "The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story" got the nod of the critics on the acting performance of the cast, the scriptwriting and the directing. The Cuba Gooding, Jr. starrer got 22 Primetime Emmy Award nominations. Out of the 13 categories, the murder case of O.J. Simpson won nine including the Outstanding Limited Series.

The Jeffrey Toobin book "The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson" inspired the film "O.J.: Made in America". The Ezra Edelman-helmed masterpiece is now a leader of the possible winners for the Oscars. Award-giving bodies have acclaimed the crime story as the Best Documentary as per Entertainment Weekly. They are the like the National Board of Review, the New York Film Critics Circle and the Gotham Awards. The Critic's Choice Documentary Awards and the IFP Independent Spirit Award have also found a winner in the Edelman project.

There is just a little conflict. The documentary is lengthy and divided into episodes. There are those that see it unfair to be included in the Oscars nominations. However, Director Edelman insisted that exposure to an audience should be prioritized. The "Square" and "What Happened, Miss Simone" both got nominated at the Oscars too.

If "O.J.: America" wins, it will be a precedent for other filmmakers to target theatrical release. Who is O.J. Simpson and what is there about him that made him famous despite his incarceration?

The former Buffalo Bills player was charged with a double count of murder for killing his wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Rod Goldman. The two victims were found dead at Mrs. Simpson's condominium. The NFL star was then suspected as the perpetrators of the murders. However, he was acquitted. Watch out for "OJ.: Made in America" at the 89th Academy Awards on Feb. 16, 2017.
