‘Death Note’ Latest News: ‘Heroes’ Hiro Nakamura Joins Live Action Adaptation! Producer Masi Oka To Play A Part In 2017 ‘Death Note’

Masi Oka is set to produce the anime-based live-action adaption of "Death Note." The latest news, however, is that Masi Oka is now attached as an actor to Netflix's film as well. Masi Oka rose to fame portraying Hiro Nakamura in the now defunct "Heroes" series.

Masi Oka revealed the news in an interview with the Entertainment Weekly announcing that he "recently finished producing 'Death Note' for Netflix." Masi Oka revealed that he has a part in the movie as well. However, as of this writing, Masi Oka's part has not been revealed.

It was reported by Movie Pilot that Masi Oka would push for Japanese actors to star in the show. However, to the surprise of everyone, fans of the manga-turned-anime-turned-live-action movie would see the Hawaii Five-0 veteran in the film.

According to Comic Book, most fans are speculating that Masi Oka will play Touta Matsuda, a younger member of the Japanese Task Force. Followers of the "Death Note" series will remember Touta Matsuda as an awkward young man who apparently has next-to-useless social skills. That character would fit right into Masi Oka's alley.

In addition to Masi Oka, the "Death Note" cast includes Nat Wolff as Light Turner, Margaret Qualley a Mia Sutton, Keith Stanfield as L, Paul Nakuchi as Watari, Shea Whigham as James Turner, and Willem Dafoe as the voice of Ryuk. Adam Wingard is set to the direct the film with Jeremy Slater writing the script. "Death Note" is set to premier via streaming on Netflix in 2017.

Having Masi Oka the producer in the "Death Note" film is certainly a big boost to any movie especially since Oka have been involved in a couple of hit movies in the past. Having Masi Oka the actor would provide the comic relief that "Death Note's" gloom and doom scenes need. Good thing that Masi Oka is very good at both of that.
