‘Metropolis’ News & Updates: 1921 Silent Film Will Be Rebooted Into A TV Series With ‘Mr. Robot’ Creator In The Forefront

Fitz Lang's dystopian 1921 silent-film called "Metropolis" will be made into a TV series. "Mr. Robot" creator Sam Esmail is tapped to create the film.

The movie is set in the year 2026 in the city of "Metropolis" that is divided into factions, the elite and the underground workers. The elite lives in a modern society filled with beautiful scenery, while, the underground workers work day and night to power the elite's lavish place.

According to Metro, Lang  was fascinated with New York skyscrapers that served as an inspiration for the movie. The site reported that the movie was accused of having an anti-establishment theme to it during its time.

This is where Sam Esmail, who is a Muslim, can resonate to Lang who said that he "tends to write about alienated figures who can't connect with other and who are kind of distant from American culture." He added, "It's not something I am consciously doing but something that happens to be infused inside me because of my experience growing up in America."

It can be remembered that Sam Esmail's wife Emmy Rossum has been on the spotlight lately. Jobs & Hire reported that Rossum had a payment issue with the executives of "Shameless."

However, that issue has been resolved. The actress is set to return to the 8th season of the acclaimed series.

Going back to topic, Esmail wanted to use "Mr. Robot" as a template to "Metropolis." Variety reported that the show might take a while to create because of Sam Esmail's conflicting schedule but other writers are already working on the movie adaptation.

Since 2002, many versions of the film emerged. It was also reported that in 1989, the classical movie was turned into a West End musical.

This will be the first TV- series adaptation of the classic sci-fi movie. To date there has been no reports on the official release date of the "Metropolis" TV series.
