ABC released the first trailer of the "Truth and Lies: The Menendez Brothers - American sons, American murderers" documentary on Monday morning. The crime documentary is based on the true to life story of the Menendez brothers.
The almost three-minute trailer traveled back to the confession of Lyle and Erik Menendez, the suspects in killing their wealthy parents in 1989. It also features clips of old and new interviews with Lyle's interview from the prison. According to the E! News, the crime documentary is packed with secrets, bizarre music, and some modeling photoshoots of Erik.
The "Truth and Lies" will also have experts who will share their analysis when they're on the situation. It was also emphasized that the crime documentary will unravel the "hidden clues of the Menendez family's descent into hell". The two-hour special will include photos, friend's testimonies, statements from authorities who handled the case, and home movies.
Furthermore, it was indicated that the "Truth and Lies" will uncover the secret life of Erik Menendez. The story will focus on how "the perfect American family" collapsed after the devastating tragedy. According to the Variety, the case was presumed as a "mafia hit" not until the authorities investigated the couple's sons, Lyle and Erik.
Following the murder, Lyle and Erik Menendez used their parents' money for "extravagant spending spree". They were then arrested and accused of double-murder involving their parents, Jose Menendez, an entertainment executive, and Mary "Kitty" Menendez, as the victims. The murder happened at their home in Beverly Hills on August 20, 1989.
Since this will be the first time that the case will be featured in a documentary, the press release also assured that the "Truth and Lies" crime documentary will have statements from the family's friends and neighbors. The evidence and proofs will also be disclosed by the detectives, jurors, and lawyers who worked on the case.
Lyle Menendez will have a "jailhouse phone interview" which will be featured as well. ABC's "Truth and Lies: The Menendez Brothers - American Sons, American Murderers" is slated to debut on January 5, 2017, at 9:00 PM.
