How To Upgrade Your Business Casual Style: Tips For Women On How To Improve Your Office Style

The business casual dress code is the most common office dress code in America, and because it’s so simple, it’s also easy to fall into a style rut. The good news is, upgrading your business casual attire can be done without spending a fortune, as it all takes is working with what you already have in your closet and pairing it with a few extras to give your office wardrobe some life.

Here are a few ideas on what you can do to upgrade your business casual style.

If you own a black blazer and matching trousers, upgrade your look by not pairing it with a white top. This combination is the vanilla of business casual wear, and there are so many ways that you can do better. First, choose a blouse in a print or color, and wear shoes with a matching or complementary shade. Accessorize with a dramatic necklace and a nice leather bag.

If you have a white button-down shirt, wear a black crewneck sweater over it. Pull out the cuffs of your shirt and fold it up. Pair this with dark gray trousers, red pumps, and a statement necklace.

Black slim cut trousers and a printed black and white blouse can be jazzed up with a wine colored blazer. Blazers in cobalt blue, marigold, and emerald green will work too. To mix it up, forego the black pumps and wear heeled oxford shoes instead.

A slim-cut chambray shirt can be tucked into a knee-length, circle or knife-pleated skirt for added appeal. Accessorize with a statement necklace, a silver man’s watch, nude pumps and a structured bag for a professional look.

A black pencil skirt can be livened up with a peplum top in a solid color or a small print. Make sure that the top has sleeves so you don’t have to wear a jacket to cover it up, as the peplum detail is the highlight of your outfit. Pair this with black or nude pumps and carry a matching handbag.

A bright-colored crewneck sweater, such as a hot pink piece, can be worn with gray or navy trousers. Accessorize with gray or navy pointed flats, a necklace, and a silver watch.
