Boxing World: Amir Khan And Manny Pacquiao In Negotiation For A Lucrative Fight

Britain’s former light-welterweight champion Amir Khan and eight-division world boxing champion, Manny Pacquiao are in negotiation for an upcoming lucrative fight this summer. Both boxers have confirmed the said talks in their personal social media accounts.

According to The Filipino Times, Khan and Pacquiao’s fight might be held in Dubai or Abu Dhabi and it is most likely be in a welterweight (147 pounds) category. Diaa Al Khatib, CEO of Al Afaq Tourism, the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) already signed a deal with Pacquiao’s team to have the United Arab Emirates as the venue for the upcoming match.

Khan wrote on his Twitter that his team is currently in negotiating with Pacquiao’s camp.

Pacquiao also posted a tweet about the exchanged talks between two teams. “My team and I are in negotiations with Amir Khan for our next fight. Further announcement coming soon,” says Pacquiao. No further details have been released about it yet.

Business Insider reported that Khan initially planned to have a match against Kell Brook, however, the negotiations failed. And now, the possible fight with Pacman will offer bigger pay and most of all, a challenging battle for Khan. Both Khan and Pacquiao were trained at the world renowned Wildcard Boxing Club in Los Angeles. Pacquiao continues to be under Freddie Roach’s hands, but Khan already left in September 2012 and he is now under cerebral trainer, Virgil Hunter.

Bob Arum, Pacquiao’s promoter, mentioned earlier this week that the reported talk between the two fighters is a “complete bullshit,” as reported by The Guardian. But then, Arum later told ESPN that Manny is trying to have a match that will take place in the United Arab Emirates.

“The people there favor him fighting Amir Khan. Whether it will happen or not I just don’t know because they have to come up with a large amount of money. Manny seems to believe they will come up with the money. I have some reservations whether it will happen or not. If the money comes up I will aid and abet the fight happening,” said Arum.

Meanwhile, in other sports new, Jobs & Hire reported that Los Angeles Lakers appointed the legendary Magic Johnson as its new president of basketball operations.
