On Labor Market Disparities Google's Shadow Workforce Shines A Light

Google recently announced that it will require staffing agencies that supply talent to Google to provide a minimum wage and benefits to their employees. Staffing agencies will have to pay those employees a minimum wage of $15 per hour and provide specific benefits including access to health insurance, tuition reimbursement of up to $5,000, 12 weeks of paid parental leave, and at least eight paid sick days.

The minimum wage of $15 per hour must be implemented as of January 2020. If Google's edict works and the agencies comply, it will be a positive development for the workers who will eventually receive increased compensation.
