Benzino Shooting: Hip-Hop Rapper Gunned by Nephew at Mother's Funeral Service

Benzino shooting - famous hip-hop mogul, rapper and reality TV star Benzino was gunned by his own relative while he was on his way to his mother's funeral service Saturday, Daily Mail reported March 29.

According to the report, the Benzino shooting, which happened in Massachusetts, was due to a family dispute in the funeral procession of Benzino's late mother, Mary Scott, in the streets of Duxbury just before noon.

Born Raymond Scott, Benzino is the former owner of the premiere hip hop mag 'The Source.'

In connection to the Benzino shooting, the rapper's nephew - identified as 36-year-old Gai Scott - was detained.

Sources said that during the procession, Benzino's nephew pulled up in his Bentley next to the rapper's red Dodge SUV and opened fire, striking the famous personality at least three times.

Station WHDH reported the hip hop artist was rushed to South Shore Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, but he was shortly described as stable.

According to the relatives of the two people involved in the Benzino shooting, they have been at odds for some time now.

Authorities further explained that the gunfire happened at 11:55 a.m. on ROute 3 southbound near Exit 11 in Duxbury.

After the Benzino shooting, the funeral procession resumed, ending at St. Peter's Church in Plymouth later that noon.

Gai Scott was charged with armed assault and intent of murder. He is scheduled for an arraignment on Monday in Plymouth District Court. Investigation on what lead to the shooting is still on-going.
