The Boston Red Sox are expected to be very aggressive on the trade front before Thursday's deadline in the hopes of resurrecting their postseason chances this season.

According to Gordon Edes of ESPN, the Red Sox, who are currently at the bottom of the American League East standings with a measly 48-57 record, are interested in acquiring Los Angeles Dodgers left fielder Matt Kemp.

The Red Sox are looking to bolster their offense and sources said that they are intrigued with Kemp, who has been on a resurgence coming off two shoulder surgeries and one ankle surgery since 2012, batting .277 this season with eight homeruns and 40 RBIs.

However, trading for Kemp will be easier said than done for the Red Sox because the Dodgers are expected to ask for several assets, which could include pitcher Jon Lester, who is also reportedly on trading block.

"The Red Sox are considering making a move for Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp, according to a club source," Edes wrote. "With the Sox in need of more offensive production in the outfield, the right-handed-hitting Kemp could be the major piece in a trade for Red Sox left-hander Jon Lester, especially with the Dodgers reluctant to part with top outfield prospect Joc Pederson."

The likelihood of a Lester-Kemp trade depends on the Dodgers' willingness to accept a lucrative amount of salary, considering the fact that Kemp is due to earn around $118 million until his contract runs out in 2019.

The trade could also be a gamble for the Dodgers since Lester could become a free agent after this season after failing to secure a long-term deal with the Red Sox.

Lester, who is 10-7 with a 2.52 ERA in 21 starts this season, recently said that he wants to stay in Boston, but the 30-year-old pitcher did not discount the possibility of a trade that would end his nine-year stint with the Red Sox.

Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington declined to confirm trade rumors involving Lester, but he quickly added that they will be talking to teams before the deadline on July 31.

"I'm not going to comment on any particular player. We have to talk to teams, we have to listen to what teams are looking to do and figure out from those conversations what opportunities are out there," Cherington said via ESPN. "Anything we do between now and Thursday afternoon will be with the mind toward building as quickly as possible toward April 2015."
