Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray arranged a quarter-final showdown in the 2014 US Open tennis tournament after defeating their respective opponents on Monday in New York.

Djokovic, who is looking to win his second title at Flushing Meadows, scored a 6-1, 7-5, 6-4 win against Philipp Kohlschreiber at the Louis Armstrong Stadium.

Kohlschreiber had a chance to make things more interesting in the second set when he built a 5-4 lead. However, the top-seeded Serb saved a set point and eventually took the second set en route to the victory.

Murray, on the other hand, continues to looked good in this year's tournament as he passed his biggest challenge so far, winning against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in their fourth-round match at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The eighth-seeded Serb almost went down 3-0 in the third set, but he managed to save three break points, which proved to be one of the key plays of the match.

With the win, Murray earned the right to face Djokovic, and the Briton said in an interview that he is expecting another long and grueling match against the world No. 1, saying that they are both familiar with each other's playing style.

"I would say we play a fairly similar style, and I think that's why a lot of the matches have been long games, long rallies, long points, because we do a lot of the same things well," Murray said. "I mean, obviously there's tactics that you go into the match with, and then there's things, like I was saying earlier, that you make adjustments when the match starts."

On the women's side, Serena Williams also advanced to the quarterfinals after winning against Kaia Kanepi of Estonia 6-3, 6-3 in their fourth-round match at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Williams, who is looking to win her 18th Grand Slam title, will face Flavia Pennetta in the quarterfinals after the 11th-seeded Italian scored a 7-5, 6-2 victory against Casey Dellacqua of Australia.

The top-seeded Williams will be a favorite to win against Pennetta, but she vowed not to take any chances in their upcoming match.

"I don't think I have easy matches against her," Williams said. "I think she plays really well. I think the older she gets the better she plays, to be honest. It is not an easy matchup for me. We played in Cincinnati. I won. But she played well."
