Former Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher to return home for further rehabilitation after prolonged hospitalization following his skiing accident nine months ago.

As per the champ's manager, Michael Schumacher was released from a Swiss hospital and was advised to continue his recovery at home. In a statement, Sabine Kehm said that the seven-time champion made progress but there was a long and difficult road ahead. His manager emphasized that the transfer from the rehabilitation clinic in Lausanne was not essentially due to a dramatic change in his health.

The 45-year old F1 legend, Michael Schumacher suffered a head injury in a skiing accident in France in December last year and was transferred to the Swiss hospital in June. He was put under a medically induced coma to reduce the swelling of his brain and had come out from it last June, according to his family.

After his accident, Michael Schumacher was in a prolonged hospitalization for six months at a hospital in France before his move to the hospital in Lausanne. His rehabilitation will take place at his family home which is located in Gland in the shores of Geneva Lake, some 25 miles from Lausanne, as per his manager's statement on Tuesday.

His manager's statement never gave any indication on the changes in the state of Michael Schumacher's health. The statement also expressed the family's appeal for their privacy to be continually respected and the rumors about his health were shunned.

During his hospitalization, Michael Schumacher underwent two operations to remove blood clots from his brain before he was put into a medically induced coma for 189 days. The injury was caused by when he fell and hit a rock while skiing with his son in the French Alpine Ski resort of Meribel on December 29.

Investigators who queried the accident said that Michael Schumacher had been going at the speed of a highly skilled skier at the time of his crash.

The latest news about the current condition of the former F1 champion came 254 days after his accident. His fans have been patiently waiting for the news about his recovery. Well-wishers and supporters continue to send warm and heartfelt messages and greetings as they await his full recovery.

However, his family is now reluctant in sharing or divulging any details of Michael Schumacher's current condition after several incidents following his accident scarred his family. In July at Hockenheim, the German Grand Prix, a race won by Michael on four occurrences, was a low key occasion noted only by a message from his wife, Corinna Schumacher in the formal program. She publicly spoke for the first time after her husband's accident saying, "We are facing a phase which will presumably take a long time. We trust that - as for so many years in F1 - time will be Michael's ally in this fight. Until then I would like to wish you and your families all the best as well."

Michael Schumacher's accident and health condition gained widespread media attention and scrutiny. But now as the news about his recovery is at bay, fans and supporters are sincerely hoping for his fast and continuing recovery and can't wait for his comeback behind the wheels on the F1 realm.
