Rumors indicated that the Google Nexus 8/9 release date is right around the corner with sources saying that the new device will be Google's launch pad for the Android L.

Previous rumors indicated that Google is planning to release the Nexus 8 and 9 tablets, but PC Advisor reported that HTC, which was reportedly selected to create the device, will not release both devices with sources saying that the company will just released the Nexus 9, not Nexus 8.

"HTC is working on a Nexus 9 device which could be the last Nexus tablet from Google because of Android Silver. It's up the air whether Google will launch a Nexus 8 or Nexus 9 but we don't expect both to arrive so our money is on one or the other," PC advisor noted.

Upleaks allegedly obtained an image of the new Nexus 9, which looks quite similar to the Nexus 7. The Nexus logo can be found on the back portion, which appears to have a matte finish plastic rear cover as well, along with an HTC logo. Based on the shape of the alleged device on the image, analysts believe that the Nexus tablet will have a 4:3 aspect ratio to directly compete with the iPad mini.

As for the release date, reports indicated that the new device will be release sometime in Q4 2014. Rampant rumors suggested that it will be launched either on October 15 or 16 and will be available on the market in early November, but there are no concrete evidences to support the claims so far.

But despite the different reports about the release date of the new device, most analysts are convinced that the Nexus 8 or 9 will be Google's vehicle in launching the Android L, which means that the release of the device is imminent.

If rumors are to be believed, the new Nexus device will have an 8.9-inch display with 2048 x 1440 resolution with nVidia Logan Tegra K1 64-bit processor and 2GB of RAM. It might also feature an 8-megapixel rear camera and 1.6-megapixel front camera, while consumers could choose between 16GB and 32GB storage size.

As for the price, the Nexus 9 will allegedly be available for $399 for 16GB and $499 for 32GB with LTE connectivity. Unlike previous editions, it will not be exclusive to Google Play Store as it will be available in all major retailers.
