NFL Rumors: Texans DE JJ Watt On His Way To MVP After Another Record-Breaking Season

Houston Texans Defensive End JJ Watt has added more reasons why he should be named this season's Most Valuable Player after becoming the first NFL player in history to record at 20 sacks in two different seasons in Sunday's finale against the Jacksonville Jaguars at NRG Stadium.
Watt achieved the milestone after recording his third sack of the game at the 5:46 mark of the third quarter to the Texans' 23-17 win over the Jaguars to finish the season with a 9-7 record.
Watt, who also recorded 20.5 sacks to win the Defensive Player of the Year in 2012, recorded 72 tackles and one interception while scoring two defensive touchdowns and three TD passes on offense this season.
"He has scored two defensive touchdowns and caught three touchdown passes this season, making him the first player in NFL history with a pick-six, a fumble return for a touchdown and three touchdown catches in a single season," according to ESPN.
With these achievements, the former Wisconsin Badgers stud has taken a slight edge over fellow MVP front-runner Aaron Rodgers in the race for the most coveted individual award this season in the eyes of several NFL followers and experts - including NFL writer Chris Wesseling.
"Watt bolstered his MVP argument with three sacks, including a fourth-quarter safety that staked the Texans to a six-point lead. He's now the only player with a pair of 20-sack seasons since the statistic became official in 1982," Wasseling stated in his recap.
"Watt's 2014 season is the most dominant we have ever seen by a defensive lineman. His 2012 season isn't far behind. The pressure is on Aaron Rodgers to answer Watt's performance in Sunday afternoon's first-place battle with the Lions."
Over just four professional football years, the 25-year old Watt amassed 289 sack, 11 forced fumble and 54 sacks.
