In British Singer-Songwriter Adele's new biography, it reveals many facts about the young celebrity that the world was unaware of. Not only did the memoir written by Marc Shapiro provide insight in to the real heartbreak that inspired the soulful songs, but also Adele's battle with alcohol and how she overcame it.
Adele's songs are often described as beautiful and soulful and at just 24 years old she has two albums ("19" and "21") and is the first artist to sell more than 3 million copies of an album in a year in the UK.
In "Adele: The Biography," it is revealed the inspiration for the album "19," disclosing information about a bisexual boyfriend Adele had. The incident that occurred on her 18th birthday went on to inspire her debut record.
Shapiro reveals: "One thing we know... Is that it was a first love gone terribly bad. Adele had professed her love and he did the same, she had known he was bisexual but, in the rush of romance, felt they could make it work. Four hours after laying their emotional cards on the table, the boy ran off with one of Adele's gay friends!"
Even though Adele's mother has remained a loving figure in her life, according to Shapiro, Adel found herself searching for the affection she never got from her father. The author writes about Adele's father, saying he was an alcoholic whose condition nearly killed him, describing their relationship as: dead and gone."
'Midway through her first tour, she allegedly had a drinking problem,' he claimed.
Parts of an interview with Adele is included and she talks about a particular concert where she had fallen off a stool in a drunken stupor.
According to Shapiro, she remembers: 'I got so drunk by the time I went on at 2am I had forgotten the words to my own songs. 'It was the worst thing ever,' she said.
Adele's latest album has been certified 16 times platinum in the UK; in the United States the album has held the top position longer than any other album since 1985.
"Adele: The Biography" is scheduled to hit shelves on July 17.
