The "Red Hood" DLC for "Batman: Arkham Knight" received negative reviews due to its lackluster gameplay quality and underdeveloped storyline.

Although the expansion pack was supposed to build on the story of the main game, its overall duration did not give developers enough time to work on its own style and plot.

As most gamers know, the DLC lets players control the titular character, also known as Jason Todd. According to his back story, he is Batman's second Robin who supposedly died at the hands of the Joker. But, as it turns out, Todd managed to survive and has now returned with a grudge against the Dark Knight, Kotaku reported.

As his ultimate form of revenge, the Red Hood dons the symbol of the main hero but violates his one and only rule by murdering criminals.

Kotaku noted that although this trait gives gamers a different way to approach the game, it gets a bit old. Sure, there are some instance where the character has to rely on his kicks and special takedowns to dispose off his enemies. But mainly, the game involves simply gunning down opponents.

Also, the DLC's main villain is the Black Mask. But, according to a review by Destructoid, he doesn't display any unique and challenging "Boss" abilities in the game.

Aside from the bland gameplay, the entire DLC only takes 10 minutes long. This doesn't give the expansion pack enough time to unravel the dark past of the Red Hood or develop his character. Instead, gamers are just treated to generic actions scene.

Fortunately, developer Rocksteady Studios is already gearing up to release another DLC in September through an upcoming patch. According to Gearnuke, next month's update will include the "Crime Fighter Pack #1" DLC.

Gameplay details of the pack are still unclear but based on a screenshot obtained by the site, players will be able to choose Batman, Catwoman, Robin or Nightwing as their character. The DLC is also expected to feature combat-based challenges.

As for this month, players can also expect to receive new content updates including the "1989 Batmobile Pack" and the "Bat-Family Skins Pack." August's patch also comes with new character skins from "Batman Beyond and "The Dark Knight Returns," International Business Times reported.
