Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson starrer "Fifty Shades Darker," a movie adaptation of E.L. James erotic trilogy may finally get a director.

According to E! News, "House of Cards" director James Foley will most probably take the reins of the sequel to "Fifty Shades of Grey." His works, to name a few, include "At Close Range," "Who's That Girl," "Glengarry Glenn Ross" and "Perfect Strangers." He also directed Madonna in some of her music videos.

Sam Taylor-Johnson directed the 2015 hit movie "Fifty Shades of Grey" which was awaited by fans of the book's lead characters Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. Fans raved about Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson's portrayal that they were even hounded by rumors that Dornan was falling for Johnson. Recent news has also surfaced that Dornan's wife, Amelia Warner, was uncomfortable with the sex scenes of her husband with Johnson.

Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that when Taylor-Johnson decided not to return for "Fifty Shades Darker" because of artistic differences with author E.L. James, who was very opinionated and involved with the film adaptation of her work, James and Universal began their quest to find a new director. Sources have revealed that there were three contenders: James Foley, who some claimed looked to be the frontrunner, Tanya Waxler and Mark Pellington.

Deadline reported James Foley was clearly the shoo-in to direct "Fifty Shades Darker" and was also speculated to direct the third installment, "Fifty Shades Freed," but that has yet to be seen whether the studio will move into the direction of a back-to-back series climax. Niall Leonard, E.L. James' husband, penned the script while Dana Brunetti and Michael De Luca will co-produce with the best selling author who also recently released "Grey: Fifty Shades of Grey as told by Christian."

Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson will heat up the theaters when "Fifty Shades Darker" premieres on Feb. 10, 2017.
