British boy band One Direction amassed thousands of fans and followers when they debuted in 2010 in the U.K. reality search X Factor. They were mentored by Simon Cowell who was also the brains behind British boy groups Boyzone and Westlife.

Want to know the latest scoop on One Direction?

Five years after their successful tours and chart-topping hits, the group composed of Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson were reported to be moving in separate directions to focus on each of their own solo careers after their fifth album comes out, as per BBC.

The announcement that One Direction will be on hiatus next year came just days after releasing their latest "Drag Me Down" music video, minus former member Zayn Malik, E! News reported.

The Sun reported that although no word has come from the boys of 1D or from their representatives, the break was already pre-arranged whether Zayn Malik left the group last March or not.

A source revealed, "The guys have been together for five years, which is an incredible run for any boy band. They fully deserve to have at least a year to work on their own projects. There is absolutely no bad blood between them and they are all 100% behind the decision."

"It is definitely not a split and they fully intend to get back together at some time in the future."

So, what would the boys do when they're not in 1D?

According to a source, Harry Styles may head to Hollywood, Louis Tomlinson was "very much in contention to be a judge on The X Factor."

Liam Payne was thought to focus on producing and being a DJ and a songwriter rather than working on a solo career.

Meanwhile, Louis Walsh, One Direction's pop band manager, who also managed former boy bands Westlife and Boyzone, had previously stated that 1D has only one more album to work on before they move on to different directions and added that he "knew One Direction wasn't going to last," as per Herald.

One Direction will have a final show on October 31 in Sheffield that will mark their final performance before their one year hiatus.
