The marketing and advertising industry has been forced to evolve in recent years due to the spike in social media usage amongst consumers.
With the daily increase in Instagram users, companies have also had to become innovative in their picture taking, picture posting and picture filtering skills in order to stay relevant in the social media field while trying to find new ways to attract new customers and retain their current ones.
"From a brand perspective, visual storytelling is the natural evolution of existing consumer behaviors and helps to humanize brands," said iMediaconnection. According to iMedia, some companies have already learned just how to capitalize on Instragrams growing popularity with their customers.
Companies like American Airlines whose "Get Mobile Get Moving concept for Instagram has proven to be quite successful for the company. The Airline company publishes a weekly photo theme and users publish their content to #AApic. Every picture published turns into a chance to win sweepstakes prizes.
Nike, not only famous for their sneakers and celebrity endorsements but also their "Just Do it" tagline, is creating a new tagline exclusively for Instagram called #MakeItCount. Celebrity athletes used the hashtag first to jumpstart the campaign.
The most followed brands on Instagram according to iMedia are MTV, Starbucks E! Online, Victoria's Secret and Burberry.
If advertisers and Instagram could create a way that users could purchase products through the social networking mobile app, sky would be the limit for profit margins.
