Avril Lavigne, who has been diagnosed with a severe case of Lyme disease in April 2015, and husband Chad Kroeger have announced their separation on Thursday, Sept. 3. The couple, who has been married for two years, made the announcement on Instagram along with a picture taken from their wedding day.

The separation came amid the unending splitting rumors. Avril Lavigne, 30, and Chad Kroeger, 40, got engaged just six months after dating and tied the knot in July 2013 in an elaborate wedding in the South of France. Now, after two years of marriage, they are heading for separation, E! News revealed.

"It is with a heavy heart that Chad and I announce our separation today," Lavigne wrote on Instagram. "Through not only the marriage, but the music as well, we've created many unforgettable moments. We are still and forever will be, the best of friends, and will always care deeply for each other. To all our family, friends and fans, thank you sincerely for the support."

Since their wedding in 2013, Lavigne and Kroeger have been plagued with incessant divorce rumors. But the Nickelback frontman slammed the speculations in November 2014. "You know, my dad calls me up and he's just like, 'I haven't slept in two days, what's going on?'" he said, as per ET Online. "I'm like, 'Dad, you're not buying all this crap are you?' You know, I get to hear all the rumor mill stuff. I find it very amusing."

The divorce rumors, however, further intensified when Avril Lavigne celebrated her 30th birthday at a Las Vegas club without her husband. At the time, it was reported that the couple had been fighting a lot due to jealousy on both sides.

Amid the divorce speculations, Avril Lavigne took a break from the music scene after she was diagnosed with a severe case of Lyme disease, which made her bedridden for five months. Similarly, Chad Kroeger also has his own health issue battle, and just a month ago, Nickelback was forced to cancel their concert tour as the singer recovered from vocal rest.

"I'm about halfway through my treatment," Lavigne said, as Daily Mail quoted. "I'm doing a lot better. Seeing a lot of progress. ... I'm just really grateful to know that, like, I will make [a] 100 percent recovery."

This is the second marital split for Avril Lavigne, who was previously married to Sum 41 rocker Deryck Whibley from 2006 to 2010. According to Us Weekly, Lavigne's separation strangely coincided with Whibley's marriage to Ariana Cooper over the weekend.

Meanwhile, Avril Lavigne, who continuously battle Lyme disease, was last seen performing a duet with Taylor Swift at the "Bad Blood" singer's concert in San Diego over the weekend.
