Bobbi Kristina Brown's sudden death more than two months ago continues to make headlines although the cause and manner of death were already known. Since her case is being treated as a criminal investigation, her boyfriend Nick Gordon is struggling to thwart the lawsuit, which accused him of any connection he had to the death of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown's only daughter.

On Monday, Nick Gordon's legal team filed a motion requesting the court to stop the lawsuit until the criminal investigation and any potential proceedings are complete. According to People, Gordon said that the public interest in Bobbi Kristina Brown's death caused negative media attention, which could unfairly affect the criminal and civil proceedings with prejudices.

Moreover, Nick Gordon's papers also stated that the wrongful death lawsuit, which accused him as a "murderer, habitual batterer and a thief," may incriminate him in a criminal investigation. Us Weekly has learned that Gordon's legal team also stated that the allegations made by Brown's court-appointed conservator Bedelia Hargrove lacked any supporting facts and are just "designed to appeal emotionally and with racial animus" against 25-year-old Gordon.

Nick Gordon's papers concluded by saying that he "has been put into an untenable situation" and that he "would enjoy nothing more than to defend himself" in the $10 million lawsuit. But, he stressed that he simply can't defend himself since the individuals that have filed this suit are the same people who are actively seeking a criminal prosecution for grounds of "refusal to incriminate himself."

Despite the motion, Nick Gordon could still face criminal charges in relation to Bobbi Kristina Brown's death. An insider told ET Online that the Georgia District Attorney will be summoning a grand jury to look for possibilities to indict Gordon on criminal charges.

"The district attorney is asking for some witnesses to be re-interviewed and will take it before the grand jury at a later date," the source said. "The DA will not specify who those witnesses are."

The legal team of Bobbi Kristina Brown's boyfriend Nick Gordon, however, is confident that the civil lawsuit against him will be dismissed.
