Uber's success have been popular in the ride-hailing industry where consumers can now hail a vehicle with the convenience of their own smart phone. But have you ever thought of taking it a step further and say hail a helicopter? It will soon be possible for you to arrive at your destination like you're a VIP.
Uber Technologies Inc. has partnered with European aerospace company Airbus Group SE to provide consumers on-demand helicopter flights with the H125 and H130 models.
This new ride-hailing service will be tested in Park City, Utah during the Sundance Film Festival on January 21.
Why the sudden change from a land-vehicle to air transportation? Airbus is making a move on transportation innovation. Partnering with Uber looks like a good move starting with the U.S Market during a well known film-industry event.
Uber has revolutionized ride-hailing but never ignored the traditional rides such as rickshaws in India and boats in Istanbul. Airbus' plan to partner with Uber is essential as the company has tried to lift sales with its helicopter sector.
This is just the first step as Airbus has invested in aerospace startups with $150 million in venture capital in its Silicon Valley site.
The announcement of the new service was released on Monday by Airbus Chief Executive officer Tom Enders. Soon, the project will be open to service a broader market.
Helicopter flights sounds expensive but Enders has not commented on the price cost for the service yet.
If you're going to the Sundance Film Festival event at Utah, you can witness someone arriving in style when the two companies officially launch their pilot flight, as reported online.
The Sundance Film Festival which annually takes place in Utah has over 46,000 attendees annually. It is the largest independent film festival in America. This year's festival will take place on January 21 to 31.
