"Star Wars Episode 8" has officially started, new reports claimed

Principal photography of Episode VIII has already been initiated at Pinewood Studios in London by Director Rian Johnson. While J.J. Abrams won't be directing, he will be producing the sequel.

While "Star Wars Episode 8" does not have a title as of writing, sources indicated that Ewan McGregor will return to the franchise as Obi-Wan Kenobi. Fans who have been faithfully watching the whole franchise would remember that Obi-Wan disappeared just as he was fighting Darth Vader. His disappearance led him to become a Force Ghost which in turn confused Vader when his lightsaber passed through him and ended up stabbing thin air.

Kenobi becoming a Force Ghost makes him sort of dead and his attendance in Episode 8 may mean something in the training of Rey. Force Ghosts have been known to show up or sometimes just whisper over the hustle several times in the franchise. Fans are also saying that if the original cast has been brought back, it would not be strange to see McGregor in the eighth installment.

Obi-Wan Kenobi was initially played by Alec Guinness, while Ewan McGregor took his turn in Episodes 1 to 3.

While the original and lead cast continues to keep mum about the whole production, what is known for sure is that John Boyega (plays Finn) and Daisy Ridley (plays Rey in the movie) is quite excited about the script.

Other things fans need to know is that Benicio Del Toro will be joining the cast and will reportedly play a villain.

"Star Wars Episode 8" is slated to hit the big screens on Dec. 15, 2017.
