"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 may be the final installment of the show.
"TVD" star Ian Somerhalder, who portrays Damon Salvatore, has shared his thoughts about rumors that the show is ending. In an interview with ET, the actor revealed that the show's production is just trying to make it through the season.
"It's something that everyone is talking about and there is a lot of speculation about it because we're so far into it," Somerhalder admitted.
"I'll be honest with you, right now we're just trying to get through this one and just make this a really, really good season of television."
Speculations run rampant that "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 will be the last season of the series. Ian Somerhalder explained that fans will be the first to know if ever the show will truly be ending.
"We just want to get through this year and make it good and we'll see what comes about," he added. "That's all we're trying to do, but you'll be the first to know."
According to E! News, "The Vampire Diaries" seems to have an end date already. Co-creator Julie Plec has shared with the publication that she has begun to think about the show's end.
"I finally realized that my destiny on this show, creatively, is tied in to Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley. And I mean that in a really good way," she said.
"As long as those boys who I now consider my friends want to keep telling the story, then I won't walk away from telling the story."
"When they are ready to be done telling the story, I will put my pencil down and say that I'm done too, and then we will work together to end it in the best way possible."
It was previously reported that Nina Dobrev may return for "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 only if it becomes the last season for the show and if "something catastrophic happens."
