Google hired Christopher Poole the founder of 4chan, a controversial hub for image sharing, where on Monday he announced in a post stating that he joined Google, even though he doesn't know specifically what are the company's intention are.
Chris Poole said, "When meeting with current and former Googlers, I continually find myself drawn to their intelligence, passion, and enthusiasm, I'm also impressed by Google's commitment to enabling these same talented people to tackle some of the world's most interesting and important problems. I can't wait to contribute my own experience from a dozen years of building online communities,"
Google's vice president of streams, photos and sharing Bradley Horowitz confirmed the news on his Google+ page.
Poole founded 4chan under the alias "moot" back in 2003, originally as a hub for image-sharing for fans of Japanese anime. However the site has grown beyond mildly making it a risqué place where the service embraced an anonymity and rejection of censorship.
4chan incubated a large number of memes reaching up to a million, where also the hacktivist group Anonymous was born there.
In 2015, Poole left the site at his 20's after a misappropriate use of the website came about, where led the online entrepreneur to build another site called Canvas.
An analyst at The Gabriel Consulting Group, Dan Olds believes that Poole was hired by Google to assist with its lagging social media initiatives.
Olds said, "The hiring of Poole definitely means that Google is making yet another effort to break the code and build a social network presence that challenges Facebook's dominance, over a dozen years, Poole has built 4chan from nothing into a site that claims to have 22 million unique visitors a month. These are the kind of numbers that gets Google's attention."
It is believed that Google is recruiting Poole for the purpose of his tempering controversial work, and that he may be an asset to bring more attention-grabbing influence to Google.
