"Saw 8" will bring back its original creator and director, James Wan, to its eighth franchise. Wan together with screenwriter Leigh Whannell worked on the first short film of "Saw" in 2003 and introduced it in the Sundance Film Festival.

What started out as a mini feature movie in has evolved and grown to seven more franchises featuring different directors. After Wan, the succeeding directors for "Saw" franchises included Darren Lynn Bousman, David Hackl and Kevin Greutert.

The Movie Network suggested back in Oct. 2014 that Wan and Whannell's decision to come back to helm another "Saw" movie was due to the success of the other films they worked on. "When 'Saw' came out [James Wan and Leigh Whannel] were so afraid of being 'the 'Saw' guys," Producer Oren Koules said as reported by TMN.

"They were trying to make their own mark. Now that they've made their own mark, they're very comfortable to come back. We're getting there. James and Leigh are absolutely going to put their mark on it. It's one of the reasons we agreed to do this again. We kind of wanted to build it up."

It was previously noted that "Sorority Row" and "Piranha 3D" writers Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldberg will pen "Saw 8: Legacy." Meanwhile, Moviepilot speculated on will be the next killer in the next installment.

Will the 17-year-old Daniel Matthews (Erik Knudsen) be the antagonist in the upcoming flick? Matthews as depicted in the movie suffered a lot tension and trauma in the hands of Kramer. The outlet suggested that Matthews could twist up the story and in a way turn out as the torturer to the people that oppressed him and his family.
