What was once seen as a noble and innovative line of work, newspaper journalists are now considered to have the worst job in the world, according to a new survey released Tuesday.

CareerCast.com, a career website owned by Adicio Inc., ranked 200 jobs from best to worst based on five criteria: physical demands, work environment, income, stress, and hiring outlook. They created an updated list for the 10 Best Jobs and 10 Worst Jobs. As in prior years, the 200 jobs were selected for their relevance in the current labor market as well as the availability of reliable data.

Newspaper reporter came in behind other unfavorable jobs such as lumberjack, enlisted military personnel, actor, oil-rig worker, and dairy farmer. The best job for 2013 is actuary, followed by biomedical engineering, software engineer, audiologist, and financial planner.

"Think about the jobs: Lumberjack - that's pretty tough. Soldiers on the front line. You can't imagine that newspaper reporter is worse," said Tony Lee, publisher of CareerCast.com. "But then you look at the criteria and you see its worse. The hiring outlook is just terrible - it's a negative number!"

"Now, it's not just the stress of duties of the job but whether you're going to get to keep your job," he added. Newspaper reporters are also now being asked to do more - Tweeting, taking video and updating stories constantly.
