The 9.7-inch iPad Pro is getting positive reviews from most tech geeks around the World Wibe Web. Most of the reviews said that it has a color accuracy is that is 'visually indistinguishable from perfect' while others said that it has "excellent viewing angle performance" with "no visually noticeable color shifts.
Set the physical appearance aside. The experts have spoken and has given the 9.7-inch Apple iPad Pro a top mark, exceeding Microsoft's Surface Pro 4 in terms of color accuracy and setting standards for screen reflectance.
Raymond Soneira of DisplayMate Technologies revealed that the 9.7-inch iPad Pro has major improvements in color, reflectance, and brightness. "It is visually indistinguishable from perfect, and is very likely considerably better than any mobile display, monitor, TV or UHD TV that you have," Soneira wrote.
The same in-depth testing also revealed that the new 9.7-inch tablet has an IPS LCD display that is a "truly impressive top performing display" and a "major upgrade" over the iPad Air 2.
The 9.7-inch tablet utilizes a "new DCI-P3 Wide Color Gamut that is used in 4K UHD TVs and Digital Cinema" on top of its sRGB/Rec.709 gamut. This is said to be the "color standard for most content" that is "needed for accurate color reproduction."
In terms of reflectance, the latest tablet by Apple also set the standard among tablets and smartphones in terms of low screen reflectance. Meaning, it aids the screen to remain decipherable in bright ambient light.
Despite Soneira's high praise for the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, he noted display tech can always get better. A major challenge, he said, is preservation of image quality and readability in bright light, where color saturation gets lost. Future innovations could include "tunable Quantum Dots, special phosphors, fluorescent films or discrete Blue, Green and Red LEDs in order to implement the necessary large Color Gamuts."
The iPad also uses a new anti-reflectance coating, reducing "its reflectance to just 1.7 percent, compared to the iPad Air 2's reflectance of 2.5 percent." With this, users can expect longer battery life.
MacRumors also reports that the tests revealed that the 9.7-inch tablet's display also outperformed its 12.9-inch category except for size and Black Luminance.
According to MacWorld, this latest review matters since the tablet has not been the number one when it comes to display accuracy. In fact, DisplayMate has ranked Apple as having a subpar performance in the iPad Air and early iPad Mini models.
