In recent reports, it has been indicated that Uber drivers earn about $15 to $20 dollars per hour on average. But then Uber takes a 20% cut and after that amount, they have to pay for their own fuel and vehicle maintenance. Drivers then get a small amount.

While the ride-hailing service has helped many professionals collect them from Point A and deliver them to point B, the question about giving gratuities is still confusing for some. So should you tip your Uber driver or not? According to Tech Crunch, "Tip your Uber driver. Don't argue, just do it."

Some passengers might think that tipping was only a courtesy for taxi drivers because they are poorly paid. This kind of thinking led them to believe that Uber drivers don't require any tips. But Uber drivers still work in a service industry who also work in other jobs to make ends meet.

It was the company's narrative and the app itself are designed to exclude the drivers from the tip process while giving the service the illusion of economy.

Previously, The Verge has it that law suits have been filed against these companies that eventually led Uber to announce that they are now allowing Uber drivers to get tips. If passengers don't give tips, their own rider's rating will be affected.

Tech Crunch explains that how much to tip, how it would work with ratings, the etiquette involved, etc are just secondary issues. The article goes on to say that first you have to acknowledge that if you can afford to take an Uber, you can afford to tip your driver.
