Recent Jaden Smith 2016 news showed the actor in Netflix's "The Get Down" series. The upcoming show is a creation of the legendary visionary Baz Luhrmann.

"The Get Down" trailer has been released online. It showed Jaden Smith wearing an afro and getting into all sorts of trouble with the other characters.

Complex reported that Baz Luhrmann's Netflix show "The Get Down" is set in 1977 South Bronx, New York. The series is described as a "mythic saga" about the lives of a group of South Bronx teens.

The story of Ezekiel, portrayed by "Paper Towns" star Justice Smith, is told through music. Other cast members are Jaden Smith, Jimmy Smits, Shameik Moore, Giancarlo Esposito and Yolonda Ross. Rapper Nas is also deemed as a major contributor for the series.

"One of the great collaborations is that I've been working really closely in creating these rhymes, and he's a producer on the film, with one of the most iconic voices of the '90s and that's Nas," the director told EW. "And so Nas has been this other huge creative force in the production. And it's been playing really, really successfully."

"The Get Down" will feature "verbal games" and "improvised dance steps" by a "rag-tag crew" as they "make a pact that becomes bigger than all of them and change their lives -- and the world -- forever." The series is set to be released on Aug. 12 on Netflix.

According to Polygon, Netflix will not be sticking to its usual way of releasing a series for "The Get Down." Instead of making all episodes available at once, episodes for Baz Luhrmann's original show will be released in two parts.

This means that the first six episodes of "The Get Down" will be released on Aug. 12. The remaining six episodes will be released sometime next year.

It is still considered as a full series, albeit released in two parts. It was not revealed whether the decision was prompted by production reasons or a new way of delivering episodes.
