Hyundai recalled its Sonata units due to its sunroof's risk of possible flying to traffic. The car company issued the recall this week to ensure the safety of their passengers and avoid the possible risk of traffic as well.

A document was filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration stating that Hyundai has received not few but multiple reports of Sonata sunroofs detaching. These pose a risk to public safety although no cases of injury or accident have been reported yet. The Korean car company gave an estimated count of 62,811 up to 63,000 units of Sonata to be covered by the voluntary recall.

Hyundai points out the root of the problem causing the recall as the unstable attachment of the wind deflector installed in front of the sunroof. The said wind deflector is placed for the purpose of reducing the noise. The company said that they received the first complaint about detached sunroofs on March. It was not until August that the next complaints came in, as per The USA Today.

In a statement, Hyundai elaborated that the meddling between the wind deflector and tempered glass sunroof panel of the vehicle can cause the latter to be removed from the assembly. Forceful closing the panel can also cause the sunroof to be detached. The consistency of the wind deflector's attachment to its mounting points causes its interference with the sunroof panel.

The recall covers the 2015 to 2016 edition of Sonata Sedans. Hyundai specified these units to be the ones assembled in Hyundai Alabama plant beginning May 28, 2014, up to March 18, 2016. The recall also includes 2015 and 2016 Sonata Hybrids edition assembled on the same plant from Dec. 8, 2014, to Aug. 18, 2015.

Hyundai will be offering their customers the wind deflector anchor plate repair for free as part of their corrective action, The ABC News reported.
