Huawei has unveiled its latest flagship, the Mate 9, and it will be coming to the U.S. The new flagship from the Chinese smartphone maker appears to be a smarter smartphone.

The Verge reports that the Mate 9 is Huawei's new top-of-the-line product and is pitched to customers who are looking to get the most out of their phone. The Mate 9 features a 5.9-inch full HD display with a rear dual-camera system, a fingerprint sensor, and 4GB of RAM.

The latest flagship also comes with 64GB internal memory, 4,000 mAh battery, USB Type-C, and Huawei's own Kirin 960 processor. The Mate 9 also has a sleek and solid unibody metal design that makes it feel like a high-end device.

According to Engadget, Huawei has made smart moves in designing the Mate 9. Chief among those is the streamlining of its custom interface, thanks to the hiring of a former Apple director to design its phone software.

Though the Mate 9 is a big phone, it feels smaller and light, making it manageable to hold. It also has bright and punchy screen, which is good considering the smartphone is also Daydream VR-compatible.

One smart feature that the Mate 9 has is that Huawei is using a machine-learning algorithm to prevent the smartphone from running slowly over time. The algorithm would look for patterns in how the user uses the Mate 9 and the smartphone will adjust accordingly.

Huawei said the Mate 9 also uses a specific kind of storage system that keeps saved bits from getting fragmented. This will also help in better performance down the road.

Huawei will also be launching the Mate 9 with a luxury variant, the Porsche Design Mate 9. The limited edition device features better specs with 6GB of RAM, 256GB internal memory, and a 2K resolution screen.

The Porsche Design Mate 9 is also curved, like Samsung's Galaxy Edge series. The luxury variant is priced at €1,395 ($1,549) while the Mate 9 is priced at €699 ($776).

The Mate 9 will first launch in several Europe and Asian markets. The flagship phone will be launched in the U.S. as well sometime in the future.
