Michael Jordan inducted Russell Westbrook into the Oklahoma City Hall of Fame last Thursday. In his presentation speech before the awarding ceremony, Jordan praised Westbrook for his achievements and his loyalty to the city.
Russell Westbrook said that when he learned he was chosen for the Oklahoma HOF, he asked Michael Jordan to be his inductor and was happy that Jordan immediately responded. Jordan's appearance in the Oklahoma City Hall of Fame ceremonies made the event a memorable one.
The Oklahoma City Hall of Fame awards people who have contributed and brought honors to the City. Russell Westbrook's career in basketball is one that Oklahoma City can be proud of.
After playing in college basketball for UCLA Bruins, Westbrook started his professional basketball career when he was drafted in 2008 by Seattle Supersonics that immediately relocated to Oklahoma City. He has been with Oklahoma City ever since.
Westbrook became an NBA All-Star player and has bagged the NBA Most Valuable Player awards twice. He and his playing partner Kevin Durant has turned the Oklahoma City (OKC) Thunders into a championship contender team. Many fans were disappointed when Kevin Durant left OKC and signed up with the Golden State Warriors for the 2016 - 2017 NBA Season.
Westbrook's contribution to the city consisted of his massive support for elementary school children which the NBA community also appreciated, giving the NBA Community Assist Award in 2015. ESPN reported that the legendary basketball player Michael Jordan said that he was a fan of Westbrook and that he admired his "sense of loyalty".
Jordan's admiration for Westbrook was the main reason why he responded quickly to the OKC's call to be his presenter to the Oklahoma City HOF. Both the presenter and award winner share the same passion for basketball and the same brand of play. Conspicuously absent during the event was Kevin Durant.
