The release date for the film "Avatar 2," the highly anticipated sequel to the 2009 blockbuster hit "Avatar," is rumored to be pushed back through the expected December 2018 play date. As meticulous as James Cameron is, the Oscar award-winning director is not the only one contributing to the delays to "Avatar 2."

James Cameron utilized "performance capture" techniques to bring the world of Pandora and the characters of "Avatar" to life. Using this method, a first of its kind at that time, Cameron produced one of the biggest box-office hits in 2009. Cameron has years to perfect the said techniques, and fans of the franchise are excited to see what the genius director has in store for them.

In a report from Daily Motion, James Cameron said the "Avatar 2" will likely use a higher frame rate and "performance capture underwater." Cameron has a penchant for pushing current boundaries of filmmaking beyond its limit resulting in spectacular visual treats for audiences.

The film will see Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana reprising their respective roles of Jake Sully and Neytiri for "Avatar 2." Given that they portray the lead roles in the franchise, it is not a stretch to assume that they will also be back for "Avatar 3" and "Avatar 4."

It is rumored that James Cameron is trying to bring back Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang for the upcoming movies. Weaver plays the badass scientist Dr. Grace Augustine and Lang expertly played the antagonist Colonel Miles Quaritch (Lang).

Although Weaver's and Lang's characters both died in "Avatar," fans seem to be in consensus that they can be brought back. As Grace exists in the "tree of souls," an appearance by Weaver is possible. Whether Grace takes up another body, appear in flashbacks or as some sort of spirit, or resurrected as a Nav'i, having her back in the fold will make "Avatar 2" complete.

According to Cinema Blend, the storyline of "Avatar 2" and the future sequels of the franchise will revolve around Jake, Neytiri, and their children, making the movie a family saga dealing with their struggle against the humans. That being said, the storyline could be one of the possible reasons why the film is being pushed back. As James Cameron is taking on the major story-writing duties for "Avatar 2," he also has to consider the story arc of the follow-up films "Avatar 3" and "Avatar 4." Then shoot all three sequels simultaneously.

A project like this sounds ambitious enough as it is. Only the likes of James Cameron, whose passion for "Avatar" is already known, can make it work. For fans, though, these delays will just make "Avatar 2" and its sequels much more anticipated. And with Cameron at the helm, the wait will be worth it. Do it right Cam, fans remember "Independence Day: Resurrection."
