It looks like Snap, Inc. will soon be bringing video game like characters into Snapchat's visual stories. The company is looking to hire people who are an expert on creating game-like 3D characters through facial and performance capture.
Business Insider first noticed the job listings of Snap, saying the company posted positions for people with expertise in 3D character animation and game design. This includes artists who are expert in 3D lighting and a person who's capable of digitally sculpting 3D characters.
These job listings show that Snap is looking for ways that the virtual world and the physical world mix properly. This effort is also part of the ambition of Snapchat's parent company to be the leader in computer vision and augmented reality.
It's not clear, though, whether this would mean that Snapchat is looking to enter the video game industry. Mashable is reporting that the positions Snap are looking for are indicating that video game-like characters could be seen in Snapchat's stories.
They said that the augmented lenses of Snapchat could soon be featuring these interactive characters. This is based on Snap's plan to combine the expanded focus on motion with the roles that are centered on character design.
One position is the performance capture specialist, where persons hired for this position specializes in creating a virtual character that is based on human actors. Video game and movie makers commonly hire these people to create the movements of the characters in their respective games or movies.
Snap is also looking for someone who will be able to model "3D characters, clothing, accessories, and props." Though this indicates that Snapchat users will soon be playing video games via the app, it's still too early to tell at this point.
It would be an interesting feature, though, if users can indeed be able to play video games in Snapchat soon. For now, everyone will just have to wait and see.
