President Juan Manuel Santos is strongly against violence when it comes to war against drugs, and he had strongly suggested that there is no sense in sending a peasant in jail for producing marijuana. President Juan Manuel Santos discussed about his appeal and to review the methods used against drugs.

According to News Everyday, the appeal took place during his Noble Peace Prize acceptance speech. It has also reported that up to this point Columbia has paid the highest price for having countless deaths and sacrifices. In relation to his statement where there is no sense in sending a peasant in jail he quoted that the United States is a good example.

President Juan Manuel Santos said that right now there are eight states at which point the cultivation and use of marijuana is legalized. He also stated that the United States has been the one who promoted the war on illegal drugs which has lasted for decades. The war on illegal drugs promoted by the United States has brought up too much violence, and destruction on the environment of nations that are supplying cocaine.

President Juan Manuel Santos also said that there is a need to focus in easing the laws which is prohibiting the consumption of illegal drugs worldwide. Further reports regarding an earlier statement of President Juan Manuel Santos, he omitted that he is not saying that drugs should be legalized.

What he would like people to understand from what he says is that it is important to recognize that between the war and legalization on drugs there are a broad range of alternatives that can be worth testing. According to a report on BBC News, President Juan Manuel Santos started working alongside a group of non-campaigners. The government has also written a new deal which was approved by the Congress last month.

It has also stated that there was a rebel group that has been involved in the conflicts around Columbia for decades, and this includes left-wing rebels and right-wing paramilitaries. Earlier in October the government has also announced that it would start peace talks with the ELN which is second-largest rebel organization.
