In it's latest promo video, Marvel Entertainment featured Baby Groot whose adult version in the first installment was considered as the most popular character. However, rumor has it that Baby Groot isn't actually supposed to be in the sequel.

In his lengthy post on Facebook, Gunn explains that the original plot includes the adult Groot. However, he later realized that some pieces are still missing in the story and realized that it has something to do with Groot's character. Due to the realization, Gunn decided to turn the character in a cuter version little Groot, which was actually featured in the later part of the first installment.

The director also added that Groot was the most popular character in the first installment and taking the character out of the film is something that Marvel Studios would be shaking their heads to. Not quite sure if Baby Groot would be a yay for the studios, it was one of the major changes in the film that Gunn was afraid to present about. Fortunately, Marvel Studios agreed.

In line with the Baby Groot idea, many suspect that it was part of the team's marketing strategy, given that a cute Baby Groot would sell a lot of merchandise. However, Gunn invalidated the report, saying that it is not the motivation why Baby Groot has to be involved in the sequel. Although he did agree that Baby Groot would be great for marketing. Here is the full Facebook post by the filmmaker.

The first installment of the "Guardians of the Galaxy" was a phenom, dubbed as the highest grossing superhero film ever with a staggering $773.3 million box office hit.
