Forbes recently came out with their annual list of the world's most powerful men and women for this year. There are almost 7.4 billion humans on in the world, but these 74 men and women make the world turn with their influence. Forbes' annual ranking of the World's Most Powerful People identifies one person out of every 100 million whose actions mean the most to many.

"Any ranking of the world's most powerful people is going to be subjective, so we don't pretend ours is definitive. It's meant to be the beginning of a conversation, not the final word," notes Forbes contributing editor David Ewalt as reported in the Washington Times Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump top Forbes' 2016 'World's Most Powerful People' list . The criteria for Forbes most powerful list are power over lots of people, financial resources controlled by each person, powerful in multiple spheres, and active use of power.

To calculate the final rankings, a group of Forbes editors ranked all of the candidates in each of these four criteria of power, and their individual rankings were averaged into a composite score. This year's most powerful list comes at a time of great, rapid and profound change, and represents the magazine's best guess about who will matter in the year to come.

Forbes ranked Russian President Vladimir Putin as the world's most powerful person for the fourth straight year. Trump's rise to second from number 72 last year is the biggest jump on the Forbes most powerful list. Other notable candidates associated with Trump include the Mike Pence, the vice president-elect, at number 69.

There are 11 new names on the Forbes most powerful list this year, including Theresa May, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (#13); Travis Kalanick, CEO of Uber (#64); Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company (#67); Mike Pence, Vice President-Elect of the United States (#69); Rodrigo Duterte, President of the Philippines (#70); and Sheldon Adelson, CEO of Las Vegas Sands (#72).
